a snow day...

Guess what? I got my camera finally! AND it snowed AND I got the day off! So I spent a lot of the afternoon messing around, trying out different settings and getting cold. I didn't have any subjects to photograph besides myself, some park statues and the snow-- so the photos are pretty simple but it's a start! I also had an excuse to wear my recently thrifted red poncho around. Today was a good day.

Have a nice weekend!

Well I have some news. I finally did it. I bought a nice, fancy digital camera. It may not be the exact camera I want right now but it's the one I can afford, and because of my little incident with my iphone a few weeks ago, my camera phone has completely stopped working. It was time to bite the bullet and do it. I figured it would be smart to invest in something that fulfilled what I wanted for the most part but wasn't going to empty my pockets (and then some...)..so eventually I might just be able to take steps towards getting my dream camera. It's supposed to come today...so I imagine that is how I will be spending my weekend :)

Flickr faves.

I am constantly looking at photography that inspires me-- whether I'm browsing Pinterest, immersed in Flickr, or scanning a blog, it is always good to get lost in some photos for a while. These photos in some way or another, made me stop and think. They may seem simple at first glace, but I like to imagine that they all tell a little story the longer you gaze into them. Today I thought I'd just share a few Flickr faves because, even though I don't use it nearly as often now that Pinterest is around, it is still a great tool for finding new photographers. So here you are-- hope you enjoy them as much as I do...

Wandering Wednesday: Mount Princeton

I'm pretty sure last weekend was the coldest weekend this winter so far...and it just happened to be the one we chose to go up to Mount Princeton. It was below freezing the entire time, but the chill in the air made the plunge into that hot water all the sweeter :) The only time I really found myself cursing the snow was climbing down the rocks into the river, but once I found a good spot, laid back and looked up at the sky, all was forgotten. It was such a beautiful night. So many stars! We even saw a shooting star towards the end of the evening, which made all the cold completely worth it.

For dinner, Liz and I made spanakopita and this roasted red pepper soup (omg, yum). It was the perfect hearty cabin meal! I'm just going to come out and say it...it was a bit of a "couples retreat," but the evening ended -- as most of our hangs do -- with the girls drinking wine and chatting away while the boys played cards and talked metaphysics. It really was such a nice weekend escape. I'm know I'm just scratching that itch to have a cabin of my own one day. One day. Sigh.

Have a cuddly weekend...

It's been snowing off and on all day. I imagine the drive to the mountains will be a little treacherous but I'm trying to put that in the back of my mind and focus on the good stuff. I can't wait to get up to the mountains-- bundle by the fire with friends, play games and take a dip in that wonderful hot water. :) See ya Monday folks!

Deep thought + a mini vacation

(source unknown)

Thought this was a suitable quote as we are heading into the weekend. We are driving up to Mount Princeton on Saturday morning and will likely be seeing hundreds snowflakes, along with amazing natural hot springs, both of which will most definitely be leaving beautiful impressions on my soul. I can't wait to escape for a bit!

Wandering Wednesday: NYE

I promised myself that this year I wouldn't get my hopes up. New Year's Eve is most always a failure in my book....overpriced drinks, horrid crowds, cover charges...the list goes on. And then I bought a dress. I tried it on as a sort of "just for fun" item in Nashville while shopping with a friend I hadn't seen in ages. We were having so much fun going from store to store, in one of my favorite areas, catching up while playing dress up. You see...I really like sparkles. And because I don't live somewhere glamorous like New York City, where sequins are accepted even in the light of day, I don't get much of a chance to wear them. Blasted! Now I had to do something fun! So we danced. First at our apartment and next, at Lost Lake. It was exactly how I wanted it to be....cheap, fun and surrounded by friends.

Deep thought thursday...

You know when things happen, and it seems like they might have happened at the most poignant and coincidental time that they could possibly have happened? Well, on the first day of this new year I dropped my iphone into the toilet. Plop. Just like that. I was at my friend Joanna's house ringing in the new year with dear friends and instead of putting it in my purse, like usual, I placed it in my back pocket so I didn't have to drag all my belongings around with me. If you know me well you might know that a. it is very rare for me to even be wearing something that has back pockets and b. I have a pretty squeaky clean reputation with phones. Pre-iphone, I had the same crappy samsung for over 3 years and never once dropped, broke or lost it. I know this is so obviously where this little post is leading...but my phone dropped into the toilet on January 1st...not January 2nd or 12th. So this means something right?!  Don't laugh. I see signs in everything and this is no exception. After thinking it over for a few days and moving from the denial stage to the acceptance one, this is what I have decided...

1. I haven't been shooting enough film lately and have relied on my phone too much for my photography endeavors
2. I become overwhelmed in simulating photo taking situations (i.e. Christmas) due to the act of juggling both my phone and camera resulting in messy picture taking and mediocre results.
3. I gotta back up my sh*t
4. taking little breaks from technology is good for me

So...in a way, those jeans were the best decision I've made all year. ;)
