Weekend time+a blue period

I am exhausted and emotionally drained right now...I will spare you the details but it's going to take a bit of time for me to get back on my feet again. Hope you all can hang in there with me. Today I will just leave you with an image because that is all I can muster up for the moment. x.

Spring fever...

I have an extreme case of Spring fever right now. Don't you? Today was a bit warmer and not having to wear my coat around even got me excited. I felt so much lighter! March is only a few more days away and I can't wait! In the meantime, I am closing my eyes and thinking of images like these from a garden party photo shoot by Jill Thomas Photography.

It's Friday!

Hello my dears! How was this week for you? My week was good but I am definitely ready for a nice relaxing weekend! Tonight I am going to a fancy birthday party with the goal of meeting new people in mind. It can be hard in a new city, ya know? Slowly though, I am getting myself out there and it feels really nice. Meeting interesting, new people can be so refreshing. It puts a whole new perspective on things. At some point this weekend I wanted to test out my new Holga but the forecast is showing gray and snowy everyday. Maybe I'll get lucky. Sunday night, I am planning on going to Solera with my sister for restaurant week in Denver. (white truffle mac n' cheese and Guinness ice-cream, yes please!) Hope you all have wonderful weekend! x.

Oh an look at all these cool things...

A bedroom make of cardboard!

and speaking of cardboard...look at this toilet roll work of art!

more Miranda July...

This layered Jello mold looks like the inside of a kaleidoscope!

I want...these outfits.

These pothole gardens make me smile :)

The amazing cut-out skills of Famille Summerbelle

Behind the scenes- Vanity Fair shoot. (p.s. this cover had some controversy due its lack in diversity...what do you think?)

Are you watching the Olympics at all? I don't have cable :( but I watched them over at a friends house the other night and it gets so addicting. We sat there for two hours and it felt like only 10 min. Anyways, this Olympic themed party seems like tons of fun!

*** To all my Colorado readers: next week is restaurant week in Denver and surrounding areas! This means that tons of expensive restaurants (that you would never be able to afford otherwise) are offering 3 or 4 course meals for $25 per person! Click here for a list of all the places to choose from!

Let's build a fort!

These forts, inspired by Where the Wild Things Are, are incredible! They make me want to call all my friends and have a fort party! Isn't it funny how everything changes when you are inside some draped sheets with a flashlight?

(via booooooom, also find more forts here, here, here and here!)

deep thought thursday...

Inspirational bits: Miranda July

How can you not love Miranda July? I think it is fantastic that she is basically making art all the time not just for herself, but for other people. You can tell in this interview that she really wants that connection between people, even strangers, to survive. I think that is such a beautiful reason to create. (sorry the video is cut off on the right, I am not sure why it does that- to see the video in full go here)

Food Cravings.

Do you have a certain food that you crave all the time? Lately I am constantly craving real Italian pizza- the thin crusted, fresh mozzarella wonderfulness that you really can't get anywhere else but Italy (if you know anywhere please do tell!). I lived in Florence for a marvelous 6 months back in 2006, when I studied abroad in college. I miss it soo much and I really miss the food. One of my favorite pizzas they had there was a pizza with an egg cracked in the middle. I know it sounds gross but seriously you must give it a try. Oh man do I miss the days when I could walk right next door and order one all to myself! My craving will hopefully be slightly fulfilled tonight because I attempting to make that pizza from scratch. I'll let you know how it goes!

House on Loon Lake.

I am a huge fan of This American Life on NPR. I just love that there is still an archive out there where you can access other peoples stories. I am fascinated with story telling and the people who have the gift to do it well. This show never disappoints. They just released there 400th episode and I am so pleased that they are still going strong. I have recently started downloading episodes and listening to them on my ipod as I walk around the park. I can't even tell you how much better this makes my workout. I actually look forward to it, which has had a huge impact on how often I go now. Okay, so the point of this post is not to brag about my newly revised fitness routine, it is about their 199th episode, House on Loon Lake. If you listen to TAL at all you know that the show is usually broken up into a few "acts", each act having the same theme. However, this episode was a little bit different because it only has one act, one story. The House on Loon Lake is the story of an abandoned house. A house that a couple of curious boys stubble upon and can't even begin to imagine how it will change their lives. This story is amazing. You must give it a listen (if you click here and press full episode you can stream the whole thing for free!). It made me realize why I love old photographs and vintage trinkets so much. There are incredible stories behind those objects, stories of interesting lives and fascinating people. In this case, these objects were the pieces of a puzzle that was just aching to be solved. Here are a few pictures of memorabilia from the house...

I just couldn't resist...

this dress. I just had to buy it. The collar is so adorable and I love how the gingham print gives it a more casual feel. Can't wait to see it in person!

easy appetizer...

I made baked brie for a cocktail party I went to last night and it was so easy and really delicious. Thought I would share the recipe...

Baked Brie Recipe

Can be prepared in 30 minutes or less.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 large sheet of puff pastry dough or 1 tube of refrigerated crescent dinner rolls
  • 1 round or wedge of Brie cheese (do not remove rind)
  • Raspberry Jam, or other sweet jam

METHOD

1 Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

2 On a stick-free cookie sheet, lay out the puff pastry or the crescent rolls flat; put brie round or wedge on top.

2 Spread jam on brie, fold dough over top, cutting off excess dough.

3 Bake at 350º for 25-30 minutes, pastry should be golden brown. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Serve with crackers and apple slices.

** I also brushed the dough with some egg whites so it turned a beautiful golden brown.

happy weekend + valentine's day!

Hello my darlings! Hope your week was full of amusements and you are looking forward to a lovely, relaxing next few days! I unfortunately, have to work this weekend :( but Sunday I will get a nice long day off and I plan on using it wisely by going to the park, baking some cookies and going to an anti-Valentine's Day cocktail party (where the cookies will be eaten of course!) My love is abroad for a couple more months, so this year I will be spending this dreadful holiday alone (although we do have a skype date tomorrow!)...but not really alone because this is a time for the sad and broken hearted to unite! Well, I hope at some point this weekend, no matter what shape or form it may take, you find love, because it's all around us and it's beautiful. Happy Valentine's Day! ....x

Check this stuff out...

They just came out with the Penguin classics version of my book club book...and also four other titles. Gosh they are just so pretty.

Do you commute? My recent move to Denver has added twenty five minutes to my normal fifteen minute drive to work....this article made me realize that I am defiantly not alone (one lady commutes over 3 hours each way everyday! CRAZY!)

beautiful snowy photographs.

Missed connections favorites...

In honor of this horrible holiday coming up, I thought I would post some of my favorite illustrations from Sophie Blackall, the woman who illustrates the missed connections posts on craigslist. Some of them are sweet and some of them make me laugh out loud. Oh love, stop it will ya?! Enjoy...(again, click on them to enlarge, the words are sometimes the best part!)
