Deep though thursday.

I know I've been ignoring you this week. I've been home for the holidays and haven't had much time to devote to the computer...it actually feels really nice to leave it alone for a bit. I've been watching lots of movies, going for walks and spending more time in my head. I'll catch you up soon. x.

Have a delightful weekend.

Well, here we are at the last weekend before Christmas and I still have loads to do. I set off to Tennessee on Tuesday but there are still so many loose ends to tie up before then. This must be why people have planners. I have always insisted that I am one of those people that can keep track of it all in my head but not so sure anymore. Hope you all make some time to relax over the weekend. The holidays can be messy but you gotta love them. x.

Oh and here are some more (fun) distractions...

I want them all: Vintage Smokey the Bear posters.

A challenge: we all need to do this.

cameraface.

True grit...I'm excited.

Kinda sad: Dogs in cars.

Let's swap: what a brilliant idea!

Deep thought thursday.

Today's deep thought is actually a video that my friend Erin showed me a couple of days ago. She posted it on her blog a while ago and somehow I missed it. Ira, you are so wise.

eat your brussels sprouts.

My mom never feed us brussels sprouts as children but I remember them getting a pretty bad rap. Lately I have been seeing them everywhere from fancy restaurants to the Food Network, so eventually my curiosity got the best of me. I had to try them out. So, last week I found this recipe from one of my favorite food blogs and tasted my very first brussels spout. I was blown away. So. much. flavor. Seriously you must try them.

Balsamic braised brussels with pancetta
adapted from Smitten Kitchen, serves 6 to 8 as a side

2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 pounds medium-sized brussels sprouts, washed and trimmed
Salt and pepper
6 ounces pancetta in small dice (1 1/2 cups)
3 tablespoons minced shallots
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
1 1/2 cups chicken stock

Heat butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until foamy. Add brussels sprouts, sprinkle with salt and pepper, and sauté, tossing frequently, until lightly browned, about 7 to 10 minutes. Add diced pancetta, and sauté, tossing frequently, until sprouts are well browned and softened slightly, and pancetta is crisp, about 10 to 15 minutes more. Reduce heat, add shallots and garlic, and sauté until fragrant, 2 minutes.

Increase heat to high, add balsamic vinegar and stock, and cook, tossing frequently, until sprouts are glazed and tender, about 20 minutes; add more stock if needed. Taste, adjusting seasoning if necessary. Transfer to a warm serving bowl and enjoy.

Welcome to Friday.

Hello loves. How did this week treat you? I am getting over a minor cold (just some congestion and the sniffles) but I am determined to be productive this weekend. Tonight I am going out for a girls night, we're going dancing :) Tomorrow I plan on working on my Christmas presents since I am making most of them this year. I'm not giving anything away except for that little hint-- I'm still like somethings about Christmas to be a surprise. Well, that's about it...some me time is what I'm really hoping for- things have been a bit too busy for my liking lately. See you Monday!

Hey and here's something neat...

Ha! Couples that look like siblings.

Such a pretty picnic.

Fourteen actors acting.

DIY: cute chalk side table.

More gem jewelry.

I might just have to get this awesome teepee for Muffin for Christmas!

One pose per second.

Also, a few Christmas gift ideas:

- Knit Slipper Socks.
- Fox claw necklace.
- Pocket calender.
- Whales tea towel.
- Hidden owl tea cup.
- Baby deer notepad.
- Feather key hook.
- Thunder in our hearts tote.
- A little film diary.
- You can't go wrong with a...flask.

Hope that helps! x.

Bits of my weekend...

Holiday Handmade was an overwhelming success! Thanks to everyone who came out and supported the local Denver craft scene. There was so much creativity in one space it was hard not to scoop up goodies from every vendor. I only let myself buy one thing (the acorn necklace shown above) but I could have done some major damage. Fixin' Sisters sold 80% of our cake stands and all of our ornaments (which I only finished Friday morning...oops) I was more than happy with that result. Overall, it was a hectic but really fun weekend. Also, my mom came in town to help out with HH which ended up being really nice. I have to say that things went a lot smoother than I expected. We even managed to go to two tasty dinners and blossoms of light amongst all the chaos. After it was all over I treated myself to a mule and some Sunday comics...oh, and a big sigh of relief.

Happy Friday!

Sorry for the neglect this week. It's been beyond crazy. My sister and I have been getting together almost every night to prepare for the Holiday Handmade this weekend. It starts today! I am a little nervous/anxious since I have never been in a craft fair before and don't really know what to expect. Hopefully everything goes smoothly! Definitely stop by if you live in the area, I'd love to see your pretty faces.

I don't have time for the normal Friday post today but check out these adorable ornaments and holiday decorating ideas!

Where: 1770 Sherman St. Events Center

Black Friday.

Well I didn't dare go out in all the shopping madness today...they make it pretty easy these days, all the sales are online. You don't even have to move from the couch! That is how I prefer it. I hate the mall. I really only like thrift shopping and neat little nick nack stores. I am keeping Christmas to a minimal this year since I am not rolling in the dough by any means but I did get some ideas while browsing today.
I have a couple more days in Tennessee before I head back to the real world. I can't tell you how nice it's been to just relax, take walks around the neighborhood, shoot some film, read my book and eat great food. A girl could get used to this...

Also. This is cool...

Free People goes vintage.

A couple virtual reads: Anthology and Rue Magazine

Write a bike.

New Etsy favs: here and here.

I could always have another....cookbook.

Not Starbucks.

I'm not one for tattoos but... (love the behind the ear look!)

Caught on camera...Google Earth.

Lovely mobile.

Conan + Thanksgiving (also, check out this hilarious commercial)

Nerd Boyfriend.

Pretty things...general store.

cute little...2011 journal

Saw this movie again last night...forgot how wonderful it is.

Home.

Well, I've come home to Tennessee for the holidays. I'm finally here. After boarding my flight, deboarding because of a gas leak in the engine (hum...), drinking a bloody mary, changing gates, changing gates again, changing gates again (I'm not kidding) and boarding a new plane. 2 1/2 hours later, it feels like the holidays all right. I don't come home often so it's always so nice to be back in the South for a bit. The air hangs a little lower here and the trees, oh the trees. It's raining which is suitable...something else I miss. Breath you guys. It's the holidays. We. will. get. through. it.

Etsy picks: Southwestern style.

I'm currently on a personal shopping restriction til the end of the year...which is so. so. hard. This southwestern trend is especially tempting...

Paper birds.

Anna Wili Highfield's paper sculptures are so fantastic. This Australian artist sews recycled paper into all shapes and sizes, creating these extraordinary, mystical creatures. I know birds are a bit overused these days, but I love them. I am partial to the paper owls. They have such a presence. Check out Anna's copper pipe sculptures here. (Also check out more paper sculptures here and here)
