Have a bold weekend!

Let's see, my weekend is really filling up quite nicely-- I've got some neighborhood exploring to do, a 90's party tonight and some plans to play in the park again. We also have a little spring cleaning to tackle...task 1: organizing our storage closets. Wish me luck!

And, link love:

Sally Draper of Mad Men has quite the fashion sense!

These his and her pillows are pretty darn cute.

Cut-out oxfords are my new obsession.

Illustration love: Oliver Jeffers.

I want to ride my bicycle. I want to ride my bike.

I want an animal vase!

An interesting project about fresh fruits and veggies called sans fridge. did you know that if you keep potatoes and apples together the potatoes will sprout slower? awesome. (more kitchen tips here)

Deep thought thursday + remembering...

There is a little sadness in my heart today. It was this day, last year, that I lost my dear kitty Muffin. I'm dedicating today's deep thought to her, for she was a lot more to me than a pet. I'm still surprised how frequently she pops in my mind and I can't help but tear up when I stumble upon a photo of her. She always put a smile on my face.

I've been listening to The Civil Wars quite a bit lately. They are a Nashville based husband and wife duo and their songs are gorgeous, calming and perfect for a somber day like today. So today's deep thought is in the form of a song. Enjoy.

Bits of my weekend...

Well, I have some news...my roommates got a puppy! Yes, that adorable little black lab you see with her tongue hanging out at the park. Her name is Lola-- she's about 5 months old, really calm, incredibly well-behaved and so stinkin' cute. We've just been oohing and ahhing over her all weekend! We took her to Cheesman Park on Saturday and she loved it....at one point she started playing with a baby Basset Hound and I literally almost melted. It was one of the cutest things I've ever seen.

I snuck in a photo of the sunset over the Highlands (that top one) I took while heading into Linger for a friend's birthday celebration earlier in the week. It's been so gorgeous out recently, it's hard to believe it's only March (and that it's going to get even warmer). I tried to spend as much time outdoors as I could last weekend, even when I was home I was lounging on the balcony listening to Motown (my fave).

So, this new job of mine (I mentioned it a couple weeks ago) is for a website called nabewise and requires me to take photos of different neighborhoods around Denver. It's actually really great because I get to explore parts of the city that I know nothing about. I've discovered some really fantastic parks and stumbled upon some breathtaking views in the process. The last two photos are from my outing on Sunday afternoon and I just wanted to share a little bit of the magic I've been feeling when uncovering these places. Just look at that lawn! Crazy stuff, huh? And that view of the mountains....I really do live in an incredible place.

Wandering Wednesday: Frozen Dead Guy Days...

A few weeks ago, on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, my roommates and I headed up to Nederland for Frozen Dead Guy Days. It's an annual celebration that started about 10 years ago in honor of an actual town resident who was keeping her fathers cryogenically frozen body in a shack behind her house (read more about that, here). The story generated quite a buzz in the news, so much so, that there is now a full weekend dedicated to it. Just like the story, the celebration itself is pretty goofy and features events such as a coffin race, icy turkey bowling, a brain freeze contest, and the famous polar plunge, where a few brave souls jump into a freezing cold lake for a twenty dollar fee. Yep, you read that right. The money goes to charity though so it's for a good cause! All in all it's a pretty awesome event! It's fun and silly and there is good beer. Oh, and a really rad fossils and geodes store.

Bits of my weekend...

Arg! I promise I am going to be better about blogging this week! Last week was one of those I barely have a moment alone much less time to blog kinda weeks; to top off I was a bit under the weather so I was exhausted once the weekend finally rolled around. Once it did though I was ready to get outside, take some nice long walks and eat some good food! I was such a nice few days, it's gonna be hard getting back into the swing of things this week. Happy Monday loves!
