Sundays.

I am actually a pretty big fan of Sundays. I know they mark the end of the weekend but there is something about a good ol' lazy Sunday that you just can't beat. This afternoon, I went to the chili cook-off in Evergreen, which was pretty fantastic-- 60 different kinds of chili, red and green; all sorts of flavors. There was chili with buffalo meat, kobe beef and even elk. This was my second year in a row to go and if you live in the area I highly recommend it! So much fun!

Okay well, sorry for the delay on my usual Friday post. Family in town usually means little time to myself which often leads to putting my blog on the back burner. You know how that goes. My Dad hadn't visited me in CO since 2007, so there was a lot of catching up to do. A lot of the weekend revolved around eating-- which is not too surprising if you know my family at all. We went here, here and here and then there was the chili cook-off of course. So yea, good food, good company. Lovely. How about you? Any weekend fun to share?

Hello Saturday.

I can't talk long. My Dad is in town and we are running all over the place doing this and that. I just wanted to check in and say hello and let you know that I didn't forget about you. Also, it was my blogs 1st birthday yesterday. Happy Birthday blog! Ha, okay...well I'll write you all about my weekend tomorrow. Promise. Some thoughts...

I was driving into Boulder on Monday night for yet another goodbye party when I saw a orange glow in the distance. I have to say that at that moment I was quite taken by the beauty of what I was seeing in front of me. I had to remind myself to keep my eyes on the road. Once I hit the top of the hill, right before you descend into town, I saw a whole crowd of people turn off at the lookout. It was a little bit exciting but also, obviously concerning. This fire has now reached national news. It has expanded to over 3,000 acres, destroying 52 homes and 8 people still remain missing-- and it's still growing. It's devastating. The air smells like smoke, and is a constant reminder that some things are not in our hands. They never are. My heart goes out to anyone who has experienced loss from this tragic event. I can not even understand how hard it would be to loose a home, a pet, a thousand memories.

I always thought that, beyond people of course, memories are the most tragic loss of all in natural disasters-- home videos, photo albums, crayon drawings from when you were a kid. It's funny how in day to day life I really don't look back at my photo albums much, but when I think about grabbing anything, that is something I would definitely try to save. It makes you think about what really matters-- what's replaceable, what's not. We all work so hard to build a life for ourselves without realizing that it's all so vulnerable.

Sorry to bring down the mood. Sometimes I need to be reminded of just how good I've got it. Have a happy hump day my dears!

Well, hello my loves. Everyone have a decent week? Mine was on the normal side. I did get to cook a few fantastic dinners though and discovered a hidden gem on Colfax. Any of my Denver readers been to Emilios? It's a little hole in the wall Mexican restaurant that's incredibly cheap. They have $1.75 margaritas Thursday through Saturday-- and they're stiff. Also, I got a steak and potato burrito for 5 dollars and had enough left over for this mornings breakfast. Seriously, check it out.

My holiday weekend plans are fairly minimal. At some point I am going to Lakeside because I've been wanting to go all summer and plans always seem to fall through. It's only open for two more weekends so it's now or never. I've never been but it looks like a fantastic place to shoot a few rolls of film. On Labor Day, a friend of mine is having a bbq and I think I might enjoy one last dip in the pool before the cool weather starts to set in here. Have a safe holiday weekend y'all!
