A little style inspiration...

Sometimes I find myself in style ruts. Everything I own seems so boring and the desire to create new outfits out of it all seems incredibly unappealing. I know none of us our models here but these outfits are put together from head to toe so nicely. Sometimes we need a little style inspiration to help us with those days when nothing looks quite right...

heading home...

So I am packing yet another suitcase and heading to Nashville for the week to celebrate Thanksgiving with my family. There is something about this time of year that I really do love. I can't wait to do some baking with my mom (pictured above- yummy!), watch this movie (my all time favorite holiday movie! What's yours?) and catch up with old friends. This year my mom and I are going to run in the Boulevard Bolt to get our tummies nice and ready for all that food! I will be checking in now and then throughout the week but I just wanted to wish you a warm holiday! x

A crafty holiday...

For all you locals in the Denver/Boulder area, here is an event that you just can't miss. Holiday Handmade is sponsored by one of my favorite craft stores in Denver, Fancy Tiger, and supports over 60 local artist! What an amazing place to stock up on those Christmas presents you haven't gotten. See you there!

(shout out to Whitney for telling me about this event)

happy sunday...

Now that the weekend is almost over, I'd like to wish you a happy one. Like I said before I am a busy bee packing all day until dark. Ugh. It will be over soon! YES! How are you all?! Anything wonderful planned for the weekend (or already happened)? Last night I made the most magnificent feast with my boyfriend for our 2 year anniversary (we celebrated it about 3 months late, oops). First, I made a pear, candied pecan and gorgonzola salad with a balsamic reduction. Then, he manned the grill outside and cooked a beautiful steak while I made a wine sauce to go on top with mushrooms and onions. I also made some parmesan whipped potatoes and seared some scallops. Yummy!!! Luckily I had a gift card to Whole Foods that I was saving for a special occasion so it was all free!

Here are some beautiful things around the web this week...

Unfortunately, my favorite Project Runway finalist didn't win, but you can buy her clothes here on etsy!

Along Dixie Highway...

Well hello there. I apologize for my absence yesterday (and late post today!). Two of my friends left Boulder for good yesterday and saying goodbye was rather exhausting. I must warn you that this week is quite scattered for me. Tomorrow I am going up to Denver to look at places and the rest of the week I will be packing, packing, packing. I have to get everything cleared out before I leave for Thanksgiving (yikes!). So that said I might have more apologizing to do later in the week. So enough about me...these photos of small businesses are by Lisa Anne Auerbach and were all taken in Florida along the historic Dixie Highway. Small towns really amaze me (I think the "Feed Store" is my favorite)...

the impossible cool.

I just stubbled upon this tumblr called "the impossible cool". It features mainly black and white photos of famous people- actors, writters, photographers, fashion icons (mostly from the 60's and 70's). Man, they really were incredibly cool. Such style! Can you name them?

Friday, friday, friday!

Hello loves! How are you doing?! I am feeling a bit sad today. This weekend I will be saying goodbye to a dear friend of mine who has been staying with me for awhile. She is returning to England after about a 5 month stay here. I have gotten so used to he being here that I'm not quite sure what I'll do without her! (visiting is a must of course!) I quite like having long distance friends though. I feel as you get older it's just how it goes. Not everyone settles in the same place-- and that can often be a good thing. It gives you a couch to sleep on when you're a visitor in their town (and a tour guide as well!)

Here are some things to occupy your time...

Stylish and sexy school girl shoes.

Adorable cutting board...

Fabric love.

Fashion...don't?

I'm on the fence with this Wes Anderson film. To see or not to see (what do you think?)

Yesterday was this singers birthday...this has got to be my favorite Neil Young song

Beautiful and unique Christmas ornaments.

Felt leaf garland...soo cute!

Comfort food classic...

Deep thought thursday...

I think a lot about going back to the basics. In my opinion, people spend too much time in their digital life these days. Computers, cell phones, no matter what it is...it has consumed way too much of our time. This is not necessarily a quote about me personally. I just believe that a full life requires a lot of personal contact and sometimes we can forget that...

Too perfect to...

read? Yesterday I was at Anthropologie and was instantly drawn to these beautiful books. Aren't they stunning? They are such works of art! Further research told me that these books are make by Penguin Classics and that there are lots more titles available. Many of the actual stories are ones we were required to read in high school but these are way better that my tattered copy of Jane Eyre!

Somethings gotta...

Sorry for my lack of post today. I actually have some huge news. I am packing up my things and moving from Boulder to Denver in the next couple of months. I plan to do this all by January 1st which is a huge task considering the holidays. Not to mention the fact that I'm a pack-rat and packing is going to be a nightmare! Change can be very exciting but it makes my tummy a little queasy when I think about it...

Pretty closets...

A closet can be such a personal, lovely thing. Don't you think? They range from obsessively organized to a cluttered mess; color coded to a sort of beautiful chaos. My closet often ends up strewn about my room in piles or on the floor. No matter how organized you are, it is certain that what your closet holds is an extension of you. These items are a collection of things, things that you picked out of thousands to represent you-- shoes passed down from your grandmother that are a perfect fit, a thrift store find that is worth a lot more than the dollar bin you found it in or just a classic cotton tee that is perfect for breezy summer days...

Have a lazy weekend!

hello dears! What are you up to this fine weekend? I am planning on ceasing these beautiful sunny days and spending some time outdoors! Nothing jotted down in my calendar or anything, which is how I like to spend my weekends, laid back and lazy. Hope you are doing the same. I feel like the last couple of months of the year can get pretty stressful, so taking time to yourself can be very important. Have a lovely next couple of days! x

Deep thought thursday...

(via Someone Once Told Me)

Take a look: Sandra Juto

Sandra Juto is a freelance illustrator, graphic designer and artist who lives and works in Gothenburg, Sweden. She has written and illustrated 4 books and has an online store which has everything from mini-pocket calendars to knitted stuffed animals. If you stroll over to her blog you will also find that she is a quite talented photographer as well! I just love her simple, child-like style. Don't you?! It has such imagination behind it. In an interview with Decor8 she says she finds her inspiration, "in stories, both in movies and books and especially from people I meet or eavesdropping on the tram, at cafés etc. I watch the whole Twin Peaks series about one time a year, it’s so filled with great moods, pictures and music."

Recipe: Poppyseed Bread

I can't believe I am only just now sharing a recipe with you! I love to cook and do it frequently. This recipe has been passed down from my mother. I made it a couple of weeks ago for my boyfriend and his family and it was gone in about 2 days! The cake itself is moist and wonderful and the glaze adds the perfect sweetness. Enjoy!

3 cups all-purpose flour
2 3/4 cup of sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons of salt
3 eggs
1 1/2 cups of milk
1 1/2 cups of oil
2 tablespoons poppyseeds
1 tablespoon almond extract, vanilla extract and butter flavoring

Mix and blend all ingredients together for three minutes or until smooth. Pour in 3 greased floured pans (or in one large bunt pan...like shown above)

Glaze: 1/4 cup of O.J.
3/4 cup of sugar
1/2 teaspoon of each flavorings (almond extract, vanilla extract and butter flavoring)

bring ingredients to a simmer for 5 min. When it begins to thicken (to maple syrup type consistency) turn off heat and pour over bread. Let cool and enjoy!

Inspiration: All the Luck in the World

Do you ever run across people who seem to do it all?! They're creative, inspirational and just down right talented. Well this is the general feeling I get when looking at All the Luck in the World (ATLITW)'s flickr photostream and online store. Everything is so beautiful and colorful that you can't help but want to jump inside some of these photos. I have to admit these kinds of people make me slightly jealous...It is clear that they are doing exactly what they should be doing and that is, well, pretty lucky...
