Take a look: Saffron Marigold.

After reading Kimia's post about her gorgeous new Indian bedspread, I was inspired to say a few words about my own. About a month ago I decided that I wanted to revamp my bedding--new sheets, new pillows, new comforter...the whole kit and kaboodle. I searched the normal websites...Pottery Barn, West Elm, Anthropologie, etc and just wasn't finding anything that great. Then I got on Pinterest and stubbled upon these throw pillows and shams with the most wonderful patterns. That's how I found Saffron Marigold.

Saffron Marigold uses the traditional Indian wood block printing craft for all their textiles, so their bedding and linens are hand-printed one magnificent inch at a time. They mirror the philosophy behind the “slow clothes movement” wherein textiles are created with an eye to safeguarding traditional crafts and the human impact on production rather than mechanized mass production. I love this whole concept. I feel like my new duvet cover is a one of a kind work of art!

Bonus: when I received my bedding (very quickly I might add) the receipt came in an envelope made from homemade paper and had a had a handwritten 'thank you' note inside. Love.

Bits of my weekends...

My weekend days have consisted of a lot of record listening, meal fixing, ice cream eating and activities that require not leaving the house very often. It's been nice. I did get out a few times--a CD release party at the Bluebird followed by a dance party at Lost Lake, Steuben's for dinner, a new spot for brunch. I said goodbye to friends and got a surprise homemade gift (picture 4). My room is looking pretty good if I do say so myself...we got the box springs through the balcony (picture 1), my new bedding arrived (picture 2) and my desk area is all organized (picture 8). Everything is coming together!

A shorter weekend post today. I swear I'll make it up to you! Work has been busy which has made getting over this cold harder than usual. I feel I'm over the hump though. I did get over 8 hrs. of sleep last night which felt fabulous! I have zero plans for the weekend. I suppose we are still doing the last bit of unpacking so there's that-- hopefully sleeping in and getting outside a bit. I've been cooped up all week!

Sorry about my absence this week. I've been feeling crummy. That summer cold going around got to me and in my non-work hours I've been trying to take it easy. Rest well my dears.

Take a look: The Burning House.

It's an age old question. What belongings would you grab in the face of a fire? Well, Foster Huntington decided to really document this question in a series of photographs which are quite fascinating. He asked people from age 10 to 91 to display their things for one simple yet extremely telling photo. He found that the word 'irreplaceable' often changes meaning with age. And to one lady, it meant everything but her own life...

I asked myself what can I say from this—what good can come out? The only good thing is that you realize whatever you possess are THINGS. And so it's not easy to replace anything you've painted, but—they are THINGS. You—alive! The best thing you have is your life, you see? And this is why now, in my old age, I feel if anything happens…

I mean there are certain things—like you might have a certain brush, but you can work it out and get another one, you know. Almost anything is replaceable, except your life. And that is what's important.

Have a bold weekend!

I've been putting off some major chores that I must check off the list this weekend. One is the curtains. While waking up to a sun filled room at 7am has made me much more productive in the mornings, I need my sleep. It's just too important to put off any longer. The other daunting task is getting my queen size box spring under my mattress where it belongs. Like I said before, since we live in a lovely old building the stairs are a little tricky and the ceilings are too low to fit it past the turns--so we must pulley it up through the outside of the building. This will require several helpers and a lot of rope. Hence the procrastination. This will be my Saturday. Jealous? Thought so.

Luckily, Saturday night will be spent with friends, a small gathering before this show and then some major dancing. Go relax my dears, see you Monday!

Two Sandwiches.

I am much more a sandwich kinda girl than a salad girl. Ever since going to Spinelli's Market (my new favorite spot) and experiencing their wonderful deli sandwiches, I've been having the urge to try my own creations. Over the past couple weeks I've made these two sandwiches. They do not disappoint...and are so much more fun to look forward to in my lunch bag (yes, I bring my own lunch to work) than the average meat and cheese on wheat bread I normally throw together. So here's to a better lunch, cause lunch is far too under-rated...

Tuscan Sandwich (adapted straight from Spinelli's menu)

+ turkey

+ goat cheese

+ pesto (homemade or store bought)

+ arugula

+ pear slices

+ good crusty bread

Slice the bread in half. Smear the pesto on one side and the goat cheese on the other. Assemble the rest of ingredients and Enjoy!

Avocado Egg Salad (adapted from Martha Stewart)

+ 5 hard boiled eggs

+ 1 avocado

+ 2 tbsp. mayo

+ 1 tsp. red wine vinegar

+ squirt of Dijon mustard

+ salt and pepper to taste

+ toasted white bread

+ lettuce and a couple tomato slices (optional)

Mash the 1st 6 ingredients together with the end of a fork. Toast bread and spread on the egg salad. Top with any veggies desired, tomato and lettuce are good options. Yummy!

Here's a little on me lately.

stretching out these final summer days as long as I possibly can.

Have a grass stained weekend!

I have almost no real plans this weekend except for a little bit of housekeeping. Somethings I'd like to get accomplished include: hanging curtains, unpacking clothes, and putting together my new bedside table (Yes, I caved and went to Ikea--more on that later). This week I have been slowly putting my room together and it's really starting to come around. I can't wait to show it to you all cute and decorated!
